Fly to Gondar from Addis

Fly from Addis to Gondar and drive to Simien Mountain National Park via Debark. Here, you trek the surrounding escarpment and viewpoints of Sankaber thereby acclimatising yourselves to the coming trekking. Overnight: Camping at Sankaber.


Day 2

Trek from Sankaber via Jinbar Falls

Trek from Sankaber via Jinbar Falls and Geech village to Geech. The endemic Galada Baboon (the bleeding heart baboon) is abundant both in Sankaber as well as Geech. Overnight: Camping at Geech.


Day 3

Trek from Geech via Kedadit

Trek from Geech via Kedadit, Saha Gorge, the spectacular viewpoints of Imet gogo (3926m) and Inatiye to Chenek. In this area you will be able to visit unique flora which includes, the Giant Lobelia (Lobelia rynchopatelum), St. John’s Wort (Hypericum revolutum), Giant heath (Erica arborea), Red-hot pokers or torch lilies (the Kniphofia), Everlasting flowers (Helichrysum), Sodom’s Apple (Solannum indicum), the ivory coloured Abyssinian Wild Rose (Rosa Abyssinica), Koso (Hagenia abyssinica), geranium, alchemilla etc. Overnight: Camping at Chenek.


Day 4

Trek half way to Bwahit

In the morning, trek half way to Bwahit (4430m) to visit the elegant endemic Walia Ibex in the abysses and craggy ledges of the Simien Mountains. Then, drive back to Gondar. En route, you visit Falasha village (Black Jews) near Gondar. Optional enjoy the morning exploring the camp site and the surrounding. Chenek is the best spot to observe the endemic Walia Ibex. Then, drive back for Gondar around lunch time, on the way visit the Ethiopian Jewish village known as Felasha village. Overnight: in Gondar.


Day 5

Sightseeing of the Gondar

Explore the sites of Gondar, including a visit to the Royal Enclosure, with six castles and several other buildings. Additionally, visit Fasilidas’s Pool, still used for Timket celebrations today, Debre Birhan Selassie church, with the most famous ceiling in Ethiopia. Transfer to Gondar Airport for the flight back to Addis Ababa. End of Tour!

Depart south from Addis Ababa to Dinsho, which is where the headquarters of the Bale Mountains National Park is located. Here we will organise the trekking for the next day. Overnight in Dinsho.


Day 2

Depart from Dinsho through the Web Valley toward Finch Abera Waterfall, located where the Web and Wolla Rivers meet. Afterwards, continue to Mararo for overnight camping.


Day 3

Continue trekking, following the Wasema River through the valley. On the way, stop and visit a local mineral spring. Afterwards, continue to the campsite beneath the peak of Mt. Batu.


Day 4

Begin the ascent to the Sanetti Plateau, climbing Mt. Batu on the way. Continue to the Tegona Valley for the Gabra Guracha Lake, where you will spend the night.


Day 5

Today you will explore the Sanetti Plateau, a great place to see the endemic Ethiopian wolf. You will also visit the Crane Lakes. A final ascent will be made to the top of Tullu Deemtu, offering spectacular views of the surrounding areas. In the afternoon, you will be met by your vehicle and taken to Goba overnight.


Day 6

Early in the morning, depart from Goba to the Sof Omar caves. The most famous spot of the caves is the Chamber of Columns, with limestone pillars up to 20m high. From the entrance, you will follow a trail through several other chambers; Web River, which snakes through the cave seven times. The birdlife in the area is very abundant. Afterwards, continue to Dinsho or Dodola overnight.


Day 7

Today you will return to Addis Ababa. On the way, visit the Abiatta-Shala National Park. Lake Shala is a very deep crater lake (over 260 meters deep!) and Lake Abiatta is a soda lake, which attracts thousands of flamingos. After the visit, continue back to Addis. In the evening, farewell party with cultural dinner and traditional special buffet and local drinks to experience Ethiopia’s cultural meals and drinks. After the farewell party transfer to the airport for international departure. End of Tour.

Day 01

Arrival at Bole International Airport. Reception by Sunlust guide and driver transfer to hotel for check-in. City tour of Addis Ababa including the panoramic view point Entoto Mountain, Merkato, said to be Africa’s largest market of its kind, and the National Museum (home of Lucy, hominid skeleton dating back 3.2 million years) and the ethnographic museums.. Overnight in Addis Ababa.


Day 2

Fly Addis to Gondar. Continue driving from Gondar to Sankober, stopping in Debark to handle National Park fees, etc. You will start your trek around Buyit Ras for a 3-4 hour hike to Sankober, which passes close to the escarpment edge. Nearing Sankober, you will have beautiful views on both sides of the escarpment ridge and where you will likely see the endemic Gelada baboons. In Sankober, you will be met with your supplies. Overnight camping or lodge.


Day 3

Depart from Sankober into a valley, through which the Wazla (or Koba) River runs. (This river is often dry). Coming out of the valley you will have views of the Jinbar River waterfalls falling into the Geech Abyss. Continuing along, you will cross the Jinbar River and ascend into the village of Geech. 

Total trekking time: 4-5 hours.


Day 4

After an early breakfast depart from Geech to the peak of Imet Gogo at 3926m. Here you’ll have spectacular views over the lowlands – one of the highlights of the trip. As you continue to Chenek, you will pass Korbete Metia, a solid rock wall which opens up exposing beautiful views over the lowlands and the escarpment. This is also a good place for spotting lammergeyers. Overnight camping in Chenek. 

Total trekking time: 7 – 9 hours.


Day 5

From Chenek continues east up a valley to Mt. Bwahit, overlooking the camp from where you just came. After crossing the Bwahit Pass, you come to a viewpoint offering wonderful views of the Mesheha River Valley as well your first glimpse of Ras Dashen. From here, the path descends, passes through the village of Chiro Leba, and finally leads to the Mesheha River. Across the river, you climb back up the valley to the village of Ambikwa. Overnight camping in Ambikwa. 

Total trekking time: 6-8 hours.


Day 6

Starting early you will continue up the valley to the village of Mizma, after which you will have a steep ascent to a ridge crest overlooking a large valley. The path then follows along the side of the valley, straight at Ras Dashen. You will eventually reach a point where you will see three distinct buttresses. The buttress on the left is the summit of Ras Dashen. A pile of rocks at the top of the buttress marks the summit. After your successful arrival at the highest point in Ethiopia, you return to Ambiko overnight. 

Total trekking time: 8-10 hours.


Day 7

Today you return back to Chenek for overnight camping. 

Total trekking time: 6-8 hours.


Day 8

Today you will be transported out of the park, returning to Gondar. overnight in Gondar (tourist standard hotel).


Day 9

Take a flight from Gondar to Addis Ababa. In the evening, farewell party with cultural dinner and traditional special buffet and local drinks to experience Ethiopia’s cultural meals and drinks. After the farewell party transfer to the airport for international departure.
